Code of conduct
Rules & guidelines.
All attendees, exhibitors and speakers at Devoxx France are asked to read the conference's code of conduct.
If something goes wrong
During the conference, anyone who needs help is encouraged to contact the organizing team first (Antonio Goncalves, Zouheir Cadi or Nicolas Martignole). Organizers can be recognized by their red polo shirt or T-shirt and black badge, and can be found at the conference headquarters office.
Otherwise, any team member wearing a red polo shirt with the Devoxx France logo and a black organizer badge will do everything they can to help you.
Short version
Our conference is dedicated to providing an open, welcoming and harassment-free experience for everyone, regardless of gender, sexual orientation, physical ability, origin, religion or disability.
We do not tolerate harassment of conference participants in any form. Sexual language and inappropriate imagery are not appropriate at Devoxx France, including in speakers' presentations, on exhibitor booths and in workshops, as well as on Twitter or any other media. Participants, speakers or exhibitors who violate these rules may be sanctioned or expelled from the conference, without any refund from the organizers.

Article 1 — Diversity, inclusion and quality of life
Through its history and the diversity of its members, the Devoxx France conference was built on the fundamental principle of diversity. Devoxx France is committed to fostering a respectful, inclusive environment that supports the personal and professional growth of every individual and every member, as essential contributors to the success of the conference. Devoxx France categorically condemns all forms of discrimination, both at the conference and beyond. Devoxx France does not allow any disparity in its decisions based on race, skin color, beliefs, religion, nationality, origin, age, sex, gender, gender identity, sexual orientation, marital status, pregnancy or disability, in full compliance with the law.
Discrimination is a criminal offense under French law (Article 225-1 et seq. of the French Penal Code). Any discriminatory behavior during the conference will therefore be prosecuted and punished on this basis before the French courts. Offenders face a prison sentence and a fine.
Article 2 — Prevention of all forms of violence
Devoxx France is committed to maintaining a safe and healthy environment. Dangerous, abusive or violent behavior, or the threat of such behavior, is strictly prohibited and will not be tolerated under any circumstances, whether during the conference itself or during the organization and preparation phases. Devoxx France ensures compliance with safety laws and regulations, with reasonable conduct at all times, and makes sure that all staff and employees are informed of what to do in an emergency. Weapons, including firearms, are not allowed on the conference premises. Devoxx France strictly prohibits the sale, possession, distribution or use of illegal substances, as well as the misuse of prescription drugs, at the conference venue. Working under the influence of drugs, alcohol or other substances that could impair the ability to work safely and effectively is strictly prohibited, as is possessing such substances at the conference venue. However, responsible and moderate alcohol consumption may be permitted at events organized or authorized by the organizers.
All forms of harassment are categorically unacceptable, whether committed by a member of the organizing team, a speaker or a visitor. Harassment is defined as abusive and degrading behavior, including verbal abuse, sexually explicit or offensive comments or images, unwanted physical contact, and inappropriate or offensive gestures or remarks. Harassment, sexual or otherwise, is a criminal offense under French law and may be prosecuted before the criminal court, with penalties that can include imprisonment and fines (Article 222-33 et seq. of the French Penal Code). Such actions must not have been solicited or encouraged by the person targeted, who must legitimately regard them as unwanted or offensive. Harassment can also take the form of bullying, where a person or group of people seeks to intimidate, belittle, humiliate or undermine colleagues. These situations can occur at the conference, outside of it, or even online. This prohibition and prevention policy applies to all forms of harassment. If the organizers deem it necessary, appropriate action may be taken against those responsible for harassment, even in the absence of specific legal provisions protecting the person being harassed.
Article 3 — Prevention of conflicts of interest
As part of its professional and ethical obligations, Devoxx France must prevent conflicts of interest and promptly disclose any such risk should a conflict arise. A conflict of interest occurs when a person or entity is involved in a situation where their personal or financial interests could compromise their objectivity, impartiality or duty to another party. Devoxx France must avoid such situations and, where applicable, discloses any direct or indirect relationship that could compromise its ability to build partnerships objectively and independently. In the event of a potential conflict, the organizing team works with its partners to find ethical and fair solutions.
Devoxx France strives to build personal relationships with its partners and to foster a friendly atmosphere. However, it is essential to remember at all times that these relationships remain professional in nature, with boundaries that must not be crossed. Particular care must be taken to avoid offering, giving, soliciting or accepting gifts, entertainment or other benefits of any kind with the aim of improperly influencing the partner's business decisions or activities, or the conduct of the organizing company and its members. Appropriate business gifts that comply with applicable laws and with the policies of both the giver and the recipient are not considered bribery. To avoid any appearance of bribery when exchanging business gifts, certain conditions must be met: in particular, the gift must be of appropriate value, comply with the policies of both the giving and receiving companies, not be tied to improperly influencing decisions or activities, and be approved and declared. Sound judgment must be exercised to assess whether an offer could be incompatible with these principles.
Article 4 — Data protection
Protecting personal data is critically important. In Europe, it is governed by the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). Personal data includes any information that can be used to identify or locate individuals, such as dates and places of birth, names, mailing addresses, email addresses, driver's license numbers, social security numbers or any other national identification number, as well as social media accounts and the data associated with these identifiers. Devoxx France is committed to handling personal data responsibly, in strict compliance with all applicable laws, regardless of the country where the data is collected, processed or used. Such data may only be collected and used for business purposes.
The use of information systems and other resources during the Devoxx France conference is strictly limited to lawful purposes on the one hand, and to business purposes on the other. Using them to send or view discriminatory, sexually explicit, inappropriate, offensive or unsuitable material is strictly prohibited. Using these resources to play online games, download entertainment software, download unauthorized media, or store music or video files other than those specifically authorized for personal use is also prohibited. Computer systems must never be used for activities involving the illegal or unauthorized distribution of online content, or that infringe intellectual property rights or violate criminal law, whether or not they affect the rights of an employee or partner. If the organizing company provides a third party with a computer, cell phone or any other mobile device, it must be used appropriately and in strict compliance with the policies in effect.
Article 5 — An environmentally responsible conference
Devoxx France recognizes the importance of sustainable development, and the organizers have therefore adopted an environmentally responsible approach. Devoxx France does everything it can to reduce energy consumption and the use of natural resources, and to promote reuse and recycling.
Our commitment to the environment is a key priority. We must keep adopting more environmentally friendly practices that promote sustainability and reduce our carbon footprint. This ongoing effort involves putting environmentally responsible policies in place, encouraging the use of renewable energy sources and reducing waste.
